2 days ago, received phone call from person ("Technician") claiming to represent MicroSoft asking for permission to access my computer because they had received an automated message from my computer that it was crashing. I asked for verification of identification. "Technician" said that he could only refer me to his "Supervisor." "Supervisor" came on line, (different voice), repeated message. I again asked for I.D. He gave me his name, allegedly Sam Thomas, perhaps Phomas, from Hurst, Texas. Telephone number 1-817-504-8281. Very suspicious. Did not trust. Did not try phone number. Any advice welcome.

Since you didn't call Microsoft for support, it's just bad news.
